Games Workshop continues its aggressive push to support its two principal lines, Warhammer 40,000 and Warhammer:  Age of Sigmar, with eight new Battleforce boxed sets.  40K also gets a new sourcebook, the Chapter Approved 2017 Edition.  The new items are all releasing later this month.

Battleforce sets are designed to pick up where the smaller Start Collecting!  sets end, offering an even larger group of related miniatures at a special price.  Each Battleforce has enough models to form the core of an entire army, or a large edition to an existing force.

There will be four Battleforces for Warhammer 40,000:

  • Orks:  Kult of Speed, which comes with 22 miniatures including two vehicles.
  • Genestealer Cults:  Insurrection, including 31 miniatures and one vehicle.
  • Astra Militarum:  Battlegroup, with 2 tanks, a walker, and 28 other miniatures.
  • T’au Empire:  Rapid Insertion Cadre, which has 24 miniatures, including 14 battlesuits and 10 drones.

There will also be four new Battleforce sets for Warhammer:  Age of Sigmar:

  • The Stormcast Eternals:  Vanguard Brotherhood includes 32 miniatures.
  • Grand Alliance Death:  Blade of the Blood Queen has three large models and 31 smaller miniautres.
  • Tzeentch Arcanites:  Changecult offers 47 miniatures.
  • The Kharadon Overlords:  Sky-Fleet comes with 16 miniatures, including two airships.

Rounding out the new releases will be the Warhammer 40,000 Chapter Approved 2017 Edition sourcebook.  This book includes a number of new rules and playing options for the game, as well as tips and guidelines for other aspects of the Warhammer 40,000 hobby.  It has 24 new scenarios, new options for building armies, expanded rules for 11 factions that do not yet have Codexes for the new edition, and the return of “Apocalypse” rules, intended for fighting very large-scale battles using the Warhammer 40,000 rules.  Chapter Approved will also have a new system that will allow players to create their own custom Land Raiders for use in the game.

Exact release dates and MSRP have not yet been announced.
