Building beautiful flowerbeds is the goal in Dance of the Fireflies, a new card game from Backspindle Games and Ninja Division, releasing this month.

In order to become the new royal gardener, players of Dance of the Fireflies use their fireflies to bid on the flowers they need to complete their beautiful creations, with the goal of impressing Lord and Lady Backspindle.  The goal is to complete full flowerbeds by using six different colored flowers to score points.  Players can also interfere with their opponent’s plans by secretly bidding their more powerful royal fireflies or planting weeds in their rivals’ gardens.  Once the potting shed is empty, the player with the most valuable flowerbeds is the winner.

Dance of the Fireflies comes with 92 cards, 42 firefly tokens, a day/night sundial, and a compost heap mat.  The game was created by Oliver Brooks and features illustrations from Amber Grundy (Clacks:  A Discworld Board Game) and Victoria Hackett.  It is intended for 2 to 6 players, ages 8 and up, and plays in less than half an hour.  MSRP is $24.99.
