Disney CEO Bob Iger has promised that there’s room for R-rated material at the family-friendly entertainment empire. As news hit the airwaves about Disney’s acquisition of parts of 21st Century Fox, some were wondering whether R-rated films were still on the table. Iger confirmed that the Deadpool franchise’s R-rating will remain intact, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
"As long as we let the audiences know what's coming, we think we can manage that fine," Iger said during a media call after the acquisition announcement.
Fox’s R-rated properties, which include Deadpool and the upcoming sequel and last year’s hit Logan, have been hugely lucrative. Deadpool’s first solo outing raked in $783 million worldwide, making it the highest-grossing X-Men movie ever.
Ryan Reynolds has made multiple jokes about the merger on social media, and today he shared a pic of Deadpool being escorted from Disneyland for, ahem, inappropriate sexual behavior perfectly in keeping with the character. As an added bonus, Reynolds also shared a new image promoting Deadpool 2, which will be out June 1 (see “'Deadpool 2' Teaser 'Wet on Wet'”).
