The oversized Lone Wolf and Cub Gallery Edition hardcover features Kojima’s illustrations reproduced at their original size on heavy stock art paper. The images are reproduced from high-resolution scans of the original art, which was created more than 40 years ago. The 228-page, 11” x 17” volume goes on sale May 23 for an MSRP of $99.99.
Lone Wolf and Cub was first published in 1970, eventually yielding 28 volumes at 300 pages apiece. With millions of copies in print both in Japan and abroad, the series about a disgraced executioner who travels a path of vengeance with his toddler son also inspired a live action film series and two television series.
Hollywood has made a few attempts to adapt the material, including a version with Darren Aronofsky attached to direct that never materialized (see “Pi Helmer Gets Lone Wolf”). Most recently, SP International Pictures, the studio behind the live-action Ghost in the Shell film, announced it had acquired the rights to the property (see “Live-Action 'Lone Wolf and Cub' Remake Planned”).
