Disney and Lucasfilm announced a live-action Star Wars series for its over the top (OTT) platform, which will be written and executive produced by Jon Favreau.

The multi-faceted Favreau wrote the 1996 indie hit Swingers, directed Iron Man, Iron Man 2, and The Jungle Book, and played Happy Hogan in the Iron Man movies and Spider-Man: Homecoming. He also voiced characters in Star Wars: The Clone Wars and will appear in Solo: A Star Wars Story.

“I couldn’t be more excited about Jon coming on board to produce and write for the new direct-to-consumer platform,” says Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy. “Jon brings the perfect mix of producing and writing talent, combined with a fluency in the Star Wars universe.”

Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger recently clarified the company’s plans for its streaming services, including a planned ESPN service, and Hulu, which it already owns a significant stake in (see “Disney's Post-Fox Streaming Strategy”).
