News of the reshoots came amid rumors that Deadpool 2 did not score well with test audiences. Collider Editor-in-Chief Steven Weintraub conversed with individuals who attended test screenings, learning that the movie scored a 90-91 in the first screening and that a later screening, which included reshoots, had higher audience scores.
“Both crowds at these screenings said that they love Josh Brolin as Cable, they love Domino, but that they would like to see more of both characters in the movie,” Weintraub told John Schnepp with Collider News, adding “When everyone in the audience gives notes, ‘We want more Domino. We want more Cable,’ the smart play for the studio, especially in a competitive summer is, ‘Ok, how can we do that?’”
The studio undertook additional photography in response to the comments, adding more footage of Cable and Domino to the film. Weintraub downplayed the added footage as additional photography rather than true reshoots and emphasized that even lacking that additional footage, the film has not scored below a 90 at any of the screenings.
Fans will have a chance to see even more of Cable and Domino when Deadpool 2 opens on May 18 (see “New 'Deadpool 2' Trailer Spotlights Cable”).
