In spite of protests from fans and the inevitable Internet campaign to save it, the WB Network canceled its new Tarzan series at midseason. Tarzan proved he was no Clark Kent, and New York City proved to be no match for such successful TV backdrops as Smallville and Dawson's Creek. The WB network, which scored a significant success with Smallville, has been unable to replicate that magic in either last year's failed Birds of Prey series or in this year's Tarzan. The new Tarzan show was announced a little over a year ago (see 'Teenage Tarzan Swinging to the WB'), but it failed to make it past the halfway point of its first season. The WB has ordered a pilot episode of The Flash, which is likely to attempt to follow in Smallville's footsteps during the 2004-2005 TV season (see 'The Frog Uncroaks The Flash').
