Dog Man: Lord of the Fleas, which was released on August 28, topped the chart, followed by the other four Dog Man books. The Dog Man juggernaut just keeps on rolling along, with no sign of stopping anytime soon.
So. Dog Man. Everybody loves it. Let’s talk about the Baby-Sitters Club. Raina Telgemeier adapted four of the volumes in black and white before Smile came out, and when that became a monster hit, Scholastic did the logical thing and re-released them in color. Like all Raina’s books, they shot to the top of the charts. What’s cool here is that volume 5, adapted by Gale Galligan, is also doing well—unlike the first four, it has made the chart every month so far this year—and the sixth volume is nestled comfortably right under the Dog Man books in sixth place. It’s not easy taking over from a popular creator, and what’s even more impressive is that volume 5 was Galligan’s first full-length graphic novel. Keep an eye on her!
Don’t cry for Raina Telgemeier, though: Although it has been two years since her last new book, Ghosts, came out, she still has five spots on the chart, for her four original books and the first Baby-Sitters Club.
The two newcomers, PopularMMOS Presents: A Hole New World and Gravity Falls: Lost Legends, are still on the chart. Other than that it’s the usual familiar faces, although it’s worth noting that Vera Brosgol’s Be Prepared is not in the top 20 for the first time since May, which was its first full month of release, and that this is the first month of 2018 that there isn’t a Big Nate book on the chart. Don’t worry, though—there’s a new one, Big Nate Goes Bananas!, due out on September 18.
