Originally published in 2011, Belfort is a fantasy-themed worker placement game in which players compete as they build and expand their city, trying to keep control of the city’s districts to secure their victory. The game was supported by Belfort: The Expansion Expansion in 2013 (see “Expansions for ‘Eminent Domain’ and ‘Belfort’”).
The new version of the base game will feature some upgraded components, including metal coins, updated artwork by the original artist Josh Cappel, and painted worker pieces instead of plain workers with stickers.
An as-yet-unnamed second expansion will also be offered, introducing some new mechanics to the game, including a streamlined ruleset for faster play, the Belfort Heritage Society which can place restrictions on expansion, the Queen of Belfort who offers special powers, the Parks & Rex government officials who provide new ways to score points, and the Locksmith Guild which can be courted to earn the Key to Belfort.
The MSRP for the base game is $60.00. Both expansions are MSRP $20.00 each. A set of the new metal coins will also be available at MSRP $20.00.Tasty Minstrel is funding the production of the new edition and both expansion sets through a Kickstarter campaign that has attracted $54,623 from 986 backers as of this writing, with 17 days remaining (an average of $55.40 per backer). The campaign includes a retailer-only package that includes up to eight copies of the game and both expansions, as well as an offer for a free demo copy. Backer fulfillment for the campaign is scheduled for July, with release into the trade to follow.
