Dark Horse, Mojang AB, and Microsoft have announced the October 15, 2019 release of a new anthology collection of stories based on the popular sandbox video game Minecraft, which has over 91 million players worldwide.  Minecraft: Stories From the Overworld will be a 88-page full color anthology that will have an MSRP of $14.99.  Dark Horse and Mojang AB and Microsoft are planning to create demand for the new anthology by releasing a Free Comic Book Day offering with a Minecraft story on May, 2019.

Minecraft: Stories From the Overworld contains stories from writers Hope Larson (Batgirl), Kevin Panetta (Zodiac Starforce), Rafer Roberts (Grumble), and Ryan North (The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl) with art by Meredith Gran (Octopus Pie), Jenn St-Onge (Nancy Drew), and Stephen McCranie (Space Boy).

The first of Dark Horse’s Minecraft graphic novels, Minecraft Volume 1 by Sfe R. Monster, Sarah Graley, and John J. Hill will be released on June 4, 2019 (see “Minecraft Gets Publishing Program”).  Dark Horse promoted Minecraft Volume One by giving away 560,000 ashcans (see “Dark Horse Gave Away Over Half a Million Minecraft Ashcans”) at Target stores.
