Starting in April, the cover stock on Marvel's best-selling Ultimate imprint will be upgraded to a new 100 point UV-coated paper.  When Marvel began its Ultimate line, the books had stiff card stock covers, but a little over a year ago Marvel changed to a shinier, but also flimsier, UV-coated stock.  Retailers objected strongly to the change because of damage concerns and the fact that the books drooped forward in comic racks and made for an ugly display (see retailer 'Rick Ralston of the Time Capsule on Marvel Ultimate Cover Stock').  Marvel reacted quickly to retailer complaints and last January the publisher announced a change to a thicker paper for the Ultimates (see 'Marvel to Upgrade Stock on Ultimates').

Now Marvel is upgrading again to a thicker 100pt stock.  Marvel spokesman Andrew Lis told ICv2 that the new stock will be heavier than what the publisher is currently using, 'It's not quite card stock...it's somewhere between the Ultimate line as it was at its launch (card stock) and the current stock.'
