Sophie Crumb, the 22-year-old daughter of cartoonists Robert Crumb and Aline Kominsky-Crumb, was the subject of a feature article by Tessa DeCarlo in the Arts and Leisures Section of Sunday's New York Times. DeCarlo quotes retailer Rory Root of Comic Relief throughout the article, which profiles Ms. Crumb and examines her first published comic collection, Belly Button Comix #1, published last month by Fantagraphics. Although Sophie Crumb has attempted to play down her celebrated parentage -- she asked that her last name not be used in Belly Button Comix #1, which is credited only to 'Sophie'--her 'funky' drawing style and use of confessional subject matter make comparisons with the works of her famous parents inevitable.
