Dream Prism Press, in collaboration with Fanfare, will release Yooka-Laylee and the Kracklestone, a new graphic novel based on the Yooka-Laylee video game, this summer. The 128-page full color hardcover with hand-sewn bindings and premium paper will carry a MSRP of $30.
Yooka-Laylee was released by Playtonic in 2017 after a successful £2 million Kickstarter. The game is a successor to the Banjo-Kazooie series, which was released for the Nintendo 64 around 20 years ago. By late last year, the game had sold over 1 million copies, Playtonic announced.
Evoking its heritage, a Nintendo 64 mode version of Yooka-Laylee was just released for Switch, according to NintendoLife.
The graphic novel was written and drawn by animation and video game artist D.M. Cumbo, who’s worked for Fisher-Price, Insomniac Games, and WayForward Technologies. Like the video game on which it’s based, the Yooka-Laylee and the Kracklestone graphic novel also raised funds on Kickstarter, raising $62,260 last fall from 897 backers.
The story features a new adventure for the chameleon and bat duo, who find a portal to a new world and set off to find the Kracklestone, which they believe will grant invincibility. They realize they’re in a race with Dr. Quack and have to work with the many absurd characters they meet along the way to prevail.
