Helped by big sales on Detective Comics #1000, DC Comics was the top publisher in comic stores in March, which was 13.1% bigger than the same month a year ago, the second big month of three in the first quarter.  Sales to comic stores had a similar growth rate in January, when sales were up 14.33% over 2018 (see "Comics Start the Year Strong").  With a $9.95 comic as the top seller in March, comics were up 15.82%, while graphic novels were up 6.35%.

That brings year-to-date sales of comics and graphic novels to comic stores to a 7.64% growth rate over 2018, with an 8.51% growth rate for comics and a 5.46% growth rate for graphic novels.

DC Comics' market share win wasn’t by a lot, but it was a win (1.74% larger than Marvel Comics).
