NuTech Digital, Inc. has entered into a licensing agreement with Ken Groove Productions to distribute KGP's complete animation catalog with first right of refusal on all new releases. Lee Kasper, chairman and president of NuTech released the following statement: 'Ken Groove Productions has never licensed its high quality movies for distribution in North America. The Ken Groove animation movies are twice the typical production budget for films of this type, and as a result, the extraordinary quality will add significantly... to our current catalog.'
Formed in 1986, Ken Groove Productions was originally a movie and music software wholesaler and distributor. In 2000 Ken Groove entered into film production and distribution. The company has numerous facilities throughout Japan that produce animated films, video games, and feature films as well as one of Japan's largest retail distribution networks.
Certainly one of the most highly anticipated Ken Groove Productions anime series is Scrapped Princess, a 24-episode saga that appeared on Japanese TV in 2003. Ichiro Sakaki's dramatic fantasy chronicles the eventful life of Pacifica, the third princess born into a royal family that abandoned her right after birth when it was prophesied that she would bring about the end of the world if she lived to be sixteen. With strong, subtle characterizations and numerous plot twists, Scrapped Princess earned a devoted following in Japan and could be a hit with hardcore anime fans here in the U.S.
