Paizo Publishing, which publishes Dragon, Dungeon, and the Star Wars Insider, will re-launch the venerable science fiction anthology magazine Amazing Stories as a monthly with the first issue hitting newsstands in July.  First published in 1926, Amazing Stories played a crucial role in the development of science fiction in America during the twentieth century.  Paizo plans on modernizing the magazine by expanding its scope to include fantasy, superheroes, and supernatural horror as well as science fiction.  Paizo also plans on increasing the non-fiction content of the magazine, which will include reviews and previews of the latest movies, TV shows, DVDs, books, comics and story-driven electronic games, as well as interviews with key creators.

Dave Gross, the Editor-in-Chief of Star Wars Insider, will also helm Amazing Stories. Gross sees a new mission for Amazing Stories in the twenty-first century, 'Eighty years ago, short stories like those in the original Amazing Stories were the principal source of science fiction and fantasy.  In the twenty-first century, the genre audience extends way beyond prose readers, and Amazing Stories will connect with that audience by covering the cross-media gamut of science fiction, fantasy, superheroes, and supernatural horror.' The new Amazing Stories, which its publishers hope will be relevant to more than just science fiction bookstores, will be an 84-page monthly magazine with a $5.99 cover price.
