There was a little reshuffling of titles and slots this month, but overall, the kids’ graphic novels chart didn’t change much. In fact, the first four spots are the same as last month, and as usual, eight of the top ten titles are Dog Man books and 15 of the 20 titles are from Graphix. Raina Telegemeier’s Ghosts is back on the list, after a two-month absence, but now Smile has slipped off.
There are no new titles, although Big Nate: Blow the Roof Off!, a March release, is back on the chart for a second month, and FGTEEV Presents: Into the Game, a January title, returns for a fourth month. Also missing are Tui T. Sutherland’s Wings of Fire books. Looking at the chart from a year ago (see "April 2019 NPD BookScan – Top 20 Kids Graphic Novels"), we were commenting then on how much the chart looked like the month before, but the bottom ten titles were a bit more diverse, with one book, Narwhal’s Otter Friend, that was actually for younger readers. (Watch for the fifth book in that series to hit the chart in September, when it comes out.) So the kids’ chart does change, but the pace is glacial.
