Manga publisher Seven Seas announced nine new manga licenses last week, spanning a variety of genres including fantasy, yuri, and cute cat manga.  Here’s a look at what they have in the works for next year.

Wondercat Kyuu-Chan is a lighthearted slice-of-life manga about the relationship between a young man and the stray cat he takes in.  Kyuu-chan (the cat) loves treats and cuddles, and he sports a bow tie as well.  This sounds like a good pick for fans of the Square Enix series A Man and His Cat.  Seven Seas will publish this Wondercat Kyuu-Chan in a larger-than-usual trim size; the first volume is scheduled for March 2021 and will have an MSRP of $14.99.

Magical Angel Creamy Mami is an update of the classic 1980s magical girl anime (which is available in English on streaming services such as Amazon Prime).  In the manga, singing idol Megumi Ayase has her nose out of joint when magical girl Mami joins her agency and steals the spotlight. The manga is much newer than the anime, having just launched in 2018; it is ongoing and three volumes are out in Japan so far.  Seven Seas will publish the first volume in March 2021 with an MSRP of $12.99.

Sadako-san and Sadako-chan is a comedy spinoff of the Ring horror movie franchise, in which the vengeful ghost Sadako goes hunting for victims and ends up with a super-cute little girl, also named Sadako.  Instead of perishing horribly, the younger Sadako helps her elder understand the modern world, including YouTube, which replaces the iconic TV in the movie.  This manga is complete in one volume and will be published in June 2021 with an MSRP of $12.99.

The Tale of the Outcasts is set in the 19th century, not in Victorian London but in a far-flung region of the British Empire.  Wisteria is an orphan, living the worst sort of 19th-century-British life, but her friendship with the immortal Malbus changes her life.  Malbus has the appearance of a beast and is hunted by humans; together, he and Wisteria wander the land looking for someplace where they can find safety and peace.  The first volume of this fantasy series is scheduled for June 2021 and the MSRP is $12.99.

School Zone mixes love and laughter in a high school yuri comedy about girls who just want to have fun.  And if things are looking boring, Yokoe and Sugiura will stir them up.  Plus they are in love! The first volume of School Zone is scheduled for May 2021 with an MSRP of $12.99.

Superwomen in Love is another yuri series, this one about a villain, Honey Trap, who falls in love with her superhero nemesis, Rapid Rabbit.  Cast out of the villains’ league in shame, Honey Trap changes her ways and teams up with Rapid Rabbit, hoping to kindle a romance as well as fight evil.  The first volume is scheduled for April 2021 with an MSRP of $12.99.

Drugstore in Another World: The Slow Life of a Cheat Pharmacist features a salaryman who is transported to another world where he opens up a pharmacy for fantasy creatures, mixing up potions to help nearsighted elves, fire-belching dragons, and others.  An anime is in the works, and Seven Seas has licensed both the manga and the light novel versions of this slice-of-life isekai story; the first volume of the manga is scheduled for March 2021 with an MSRP of $12.99, and the light novels will launch in May with an MSRP of $13.99 for volume 1.

Bite Maker is a josei (adult women) manga with a supernatural alpha/beta/omega storyline about a man who has perfect features, an array of talents, and irresistible animal magnetism.  Naturally, he is unhappy, until he finds the woman who can satisfy him.  Seven Seas will publish the first volume in May 2021 with an MSRP of $12.99.

Shut-in Elf is a comedy fantasy series about an elf who was trapped on earth 400 years ago and is only interested in playing video games.  She lives in a shrine, and some believe she is a god; she also keeps the local shrine maidens busy getting her the latest electronic gear.  The first volume is scheduled for March 2021 and will have an MSRP of $12.99.
