Season 11 of The Walking Dead will be the last, AMC announced, although calling it "a" season is a bit of a stretch, since it will run 24 episodes over two years. Season 10 is not yet finished; the "finale" will air October 4, followed by an extra six episodes planned for early 2021 (see "’TWD’ S11 Delays"). The extended Season 11 will wrap up in 2022.
An additional greenlit series and a series in development were also announced. The greenlit series will star Norman Reedus as Daryl and Melissa McBride as Carol, kicking off in 2023, with current The Walking Dead showrunner Angela Kang in the same role on the new series, which was created by Kang and past showrunner Scott Gimple.
The series in development, with Gimple, is a Tales of the Walking Dead anthology series, using some existing characters along with new one to tell backstories and stand-alone experiences.
The premiere of second spin-off series The Walking Dead: World Beyond (see "Second TWD Spinoff Casting News") will follow the S10 Finale on October 4. The first episodes of Season 6 of Fear the Walking Dead, the first spinoff, will begin airing October 11.
