The first eight titles on the list, as well as the tenth, are Dog Man books, a monolithic formation that has been broken up in recent months by Jerry Craft’s New Kid and Class Act, Raina Telgemeier’s Guts (hanging in at number nine), and Katy Farina’s second Baby-Sitters Little Sister book, Karen’s Roller Skates. All those graphic novels are still on the chart, but the Dog Man titles have risen to the top again. In addition, the box set Dog Man: The Epic Collection is at number 14. On the other hand, the Dav Pilkey-inspired title The Horrifyingly Haunted Hack-A-Ween, which made the top 20 in September and October, is off the chart again.
The one new title on the list is the tenth volume of Nathan Hale’s Hazardous Tales, Blades of Freedom, which tells the story of the Haitian Revolution. The last book in that series to make the chart was volume 8, which charted in October 2018.
It’s always interesting to look at what’s not on the list as well as what’s there. Raina Telegemeier’s Smile has slipped out of the top 20, and John Patrick Green’s InvestiGators Take the Plunge, which debuted on the October 2020 chart, has slipped into the nether regions as well.
