Comics blew up on Kickstarter in 2020, up 59% with over $25 million raised, according to a post by Thomas Bidaux of ICO Partners on Twitter. Projects funded were up modestly, a 10% increase from 1,597 to 1,754, while dollars raised were up over $9 million, from $16,217,336 to $25,739,173. Efficiency improved dramatically, with a decline in unfunded projects from 712 to 612.
BOOM! Studios’ BRZRKR, by Keanu Reeves, Matt Kindt, and Ron Garney led the way with over $1.4 million raised.
The growth rate for comics was substantially higher than the growth rate for Kickstarter as a whole; total projects on the platform raised $730 million in 2020, up 19% from $616 million raised in 2019.
