Penguin Press will release All of the Marvels: A Journey to the Ends of the Biggest Story Ever Told, by Douglas Wolk, on October 5. To write this book, friend of ICv2 Douglas Wolk (see "ICv2 Comics & Digital Conference") read the entire Marvel Comics oeuvre, all 27,000 comics, with over 500,000 pages of story. That makes Marvel comics the longest continuous, self-contained work of fiction ever created, and a 60-year trip through American culture.
Wolk’s book will guide readers through this massive narrative, noting cultural aspirations, storytelling modes, progressive visions, painful stereotypes, woeful hackwork, and luminous creativity.
Wolk won an Eisner in 2008 for Reading Comics: How Graphic Novels Work and What They Mean (see "Dark Horse, DC Top Eisners").
The 384-page, 6-1/8” x 9-1/4” hardback will retail for $28.
