When they lose their powers, the Avengers do what Japanese superheroes do: they get their own high-tech power suits. That’s the premise of the new six-issue series Tech-On Avengers, by writer Jim Zub and artist Jeff “Chamba” Cruz. The Japanese figure and model company Bandai Spirits designed the characters and will release a line of action figures that tie in with the comic. Tech-On Avengers #1 will go on sale on August 11 with a cover by Eiichi Shimizu, co-creator of the Ultraman manga.

In the new series, the Red Skull disables the Avengers’ powers, but Tony Stark comes to the rescue with his latest technology: high-tech mech suits with new attack powers that will allow the heroes to face off with similarly equipped villains. The new series is inspired by tokusatsu, special-effects shows such as Kamen Rider and Ultraman that were created in Japan and have become popular all over the world.

Zub is a comics writer whose work includes Rick and Morty vs. Dungeons & Dragons, Avengers: No Surrender, and Thunderbolts. Cruz has been an artist for Venom, and he and Zub teamed up on a number of Street Fighter comics.
