Stephan Pastis, the creator of the syndicated comic strip Pearls Before Swine, will launch a new middle-grade graphic novel series, Trubble Town, in August. The first volume, Squirrel Do Bad, is slated to be released on August 31 in the book channel and October 6 for Diamond customers. The 288-page, full color book will be published in two editions, a paperback with an MSRP of $12.99 and a hardcover with an MSRP of $21.99.

The main character in Trubble Town is Wendy the Wanderer, who in fact never gets out of the house because her father is overprotective. When he leaves her with a babysitter who takes a more laissez-faire approach, Wendy seizes the opportunity to go exploring and gets involved in a series of mishaps involving the local animals and humans.

Pastis is also the author of the seven-volume Timmy Failure series, which is done in an illustrated chapter book format similar to the Diary of a Wimpy Kid books. The seventh volume made the New York Times list of best-selling middle-grade children’s books, and Disney did a movie adaptation that was released on Disney+ in January 2020.
