Sabertooth Games is preparing a licensed collectible card game based on Games Workshop's popular miniatures game Warhammer 40,000  (see 'Sabertooth Snags Warhammer 40K CCG').  Designed by Ryan Miller and Luke Peterschmidt, the Warhammer 40,000 CCG will have the excitement and ultra-violence of the Warhammer 40,000 universe on huge scale as players vie to eliminate the competition and take over the planet Pandora Prime.  The designers are being careful to present the world of Pandora Prime in all its gory detail with its four competing groups of space marines, Orks, Chaos and Eldar.  Initially the game will have about 230-250 cards with four different theme decks (55 cards each) for each of the competing forces: Orks, Marines, Chaos, and Eldar.  Decks will be packed 12 per display.  Boosters will contain 12 cards per pack and a booster display will include 40 packs.  The first expansion, which will appear about 3-4 months after the initial release of the game in late 2001, will introduce the Imperial Guards and the Tyranids as well as contain lots of new cards for the initial four races.

In its Warhammer 40,000 CCG Sabertooth is introducing some very interesting innovations.  It will be the first CCG which has a pre-ordained set number of turns--every war will be concluded in just four turns.  And it's all about the battle, stupid -- don't expect any intrigue or politics, this is just plain grim combat.  Also players shouldn't expect to win just because they have a better deck.  While deck strategy is important, players have to interact and play well to win.  There are no sure things in the Warhammer universe.

Clearly the Warhammer 40,000 CCG is not for the Pokemon crowd.  Since it doesn't dumb down the Warhammer world, gamers who enjoy Games Workshop's popular Warhammer miniatures game should feel right at home with the CCG -- and folks who have never had the patience, money or motor skills to construct miniature armies should find that this is one quick and bloody game of conquest that will provide a unique CCG gaming experience.   Just imagine if you could finish a game of Risk in just four turns (and with a body count exceeding that of Total Recall)!
