Dragon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba was the top selling manga franchise across all channels in the U.S. for Fall 2021 (September through December) as measured in dollars, according to ICv2’s analysis of sales reported by NPD BookScan for the book channel, and of sales reported by ComicHub in the comic store channel. The series, which recently ended, got a big boost from the anime; the film Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba: Mugen Train dominated the box office in April with what was expected to be the biggest opening weekend ever for a foreign-language film (see "‘Demon Slayer’ Debuts Big in U.S."). Attack on Titan, which also wrapped up last year, saw strong sales as well. My Hero Academia dropped to fifth place on the chart, as VIZ Media has slowed down releases of the flagship title (there are several spinoffs, which are also included in our calculations). In addition, as VIZ Vice President Publishing Sales Kevin Hamric told ICv2, some books simply weren’t available to sell because of supply chain issues (see "ICv2 Interview: Viz Media Vice President Publishing Sales Kevin Hamric").
