Gemstone Publishing will release The Three Musketeers in August, to tie in with the upcoming release of Disney's The Three Musketeers OVA on DVD and VHS on August 17th.  The story of both features Mickey, Donald, and Goofy as the reknowned Three Musketeers, and Pegleg Pete and Clarabelle the Cow as the villain and his hench-cow.  The artwork on the $3.95 comic adaptation will be Disney Euro-art from Italy.

The movie is reported to be a relatively high quality 2-D animated effort, despite its small budget. This is the first feature-length appearance for Mickey and Friends, although not by much at an hour and 15 minutes.  Director Donovan Cook led an effort to pressure Disney into releasing the film theatrically, arguing that it deserved the big screen.  Disney execs were reportedly unsure that Mickey could 'open' a feature, and said publicly they were unwilling to take the risk of putting more money into this film.  Cook did not prevail, and the movie will go straight to video.
