ComiXology co-founder and CEO David Steinberger is leaving his role to take a new position at Amazon, he revealed on Twitter Thursday. "I’ve been asked if I'd like to lead a new Amazon-wide initiative that is too good an opportunity to not take," he wrote. "It was a tough decision, but I’m ready for a new entrepreneurial challenge."
Steinberger will continue to be an advisor to comiXology, with two long-time executives, Tom Ashley and Jeff DiBartolomeo, leading the company going forward. "I’m extremely confident in Jeff and Tom, the rest of the comiXology leadership team, and the many passionate, comics-loving employees that strive day-in & day-out to make everyone on the planet lifelong fans," Steinberger said of the new leadership.
Steinberger has been comiXology CEO since the company’s founding in 2008, through its early years with its online pull-list offering and first digital comics app, culminating in a sale to Amazon in 2014, and as an Amazon subsidiary since. ComiXology recently integrated its apps and website with Amazon’s in a bumpy transition.
Steinberger has been running Amazon’s worldwide digital comic operations in recent years, managing especially rapid growth during the Covid era.
Remains as comiXology Advisor
