We returned to the Jacob Javits Convention Center for the 2022 edition of New York Comic Con and found the event approaching full scale after a more limited show last year (see "Smaller Crowds, Bigger Venue"). While attendance was not expected to match 2019 levels, booth space appeared to be sold and sponsorships were definitely way up from 2021.
There were big differences in composition of the exhibit floor from pre-Covid days. Marvel Comics and IDW Publishing were the only two of the seven largest U.S. publishers exhibiting, with the space largely taken over by anime and related exhibitors. Also present in bigger square footage than years past were streamers, as was the case in San Diego. The New York book publishers were largely back in place. Absent from the floor were the large Chevrolet and Geico booths from 2019 and before, a welcome shift to more geek-oriented exhibitors and an overall cooler vibe.
