Free League Publishing announced that they are developing two open gaming licenses, a rework of the Year Zero Engine OGL and a new license for Dragonbane RPG developers. The announcement of these two OGLs being sent into development is in response to Wizards of the Coast's D&D OGL 1.1 leaks, which caused a great deal of strife amongst members of the RPG creator community over the last week (see "OGL 1.1 Furor").

The Year Zero Engine has been used in most Free League RPGs recently, which include: Mutant: Year Zero, Coriolis, Tales From the Loop, Forbidden Lands, ALIEN, Vaesen, Blade Runner RPG, and The Walking Dead Universe RPG. The rework of this OGL will provide creators with an easy to understand, irrevocable license that is royalty-free and can be applied worldwide. The Dragonbane RPG OGL will be specifically for third-party supplements (not standalone games) for that specific game line, and it will not have an SRD. However, it will allow creators to freely publish supplements for the Dragonbane RPG without paying royalties and will supply them with A Module for Dragonbane logo for the front cover.

"It's clear that it is high time for Free League to have an OGL that is fully our own," said Free League CEO Tomas Harenstam.

WotC recently announced that they are delaying the release of their new OGL and promised changes from OGL 1.1 version (see "Wizards of the Coast Backs Down on OGL").
