The ice is thawing and showbiz news is heating up. Time for another round-up!
Disney pushed back the release date of Marvel Studios' The Marvels, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The movie, starring Brie Larson as Captain Marvel, has moved from July 28, 2023 to November 10, 2023 (see "Best in Shows -- 2023"). Shortly after the announcement, Larson shared a new poster for the movie on her Twitter account (see below).
Hellboy: The Crooked Man, a Millennium Media reboot of the film franchise, will start production in Bulgaria next month, according to Deadline, with first-time feature director Brian Taylor, a writer on Brave New World and Happy, helming. For the first time, creator Mike Mignola wrote the film script, with Chris Golden. The comic on which the movie will be based, by Mignola and Richard Corben, won an Eisner for Best Limited Series in 2009 (see "2009 Eisner Award Winners").
Disney+ released a trailer for the series adaptation American Born Chinese, which will drop in Spring 2023 (see trailer below). The series, which stars Ke Huy Quan, Michelle Yeoh, and others. began production in April 2022 (see "‘American Born Chinese’ Starts Production"). It’s based on the award-winning original graphic novel by Gene Luen Yang (see "Interview with Gene Luen Yang").
Aniplex of America and Crunchyroll announced a U.S. theatrical event for Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba -To the Swordsmith Village. On March 3, 2023, Episodes 10 and 11 of the series' Entertainment District Arc will be shown in select theaters alongside an extended Episode 1 of the Swordsmith Village Arc. Back in April 2021, Demon Slayer: Mugen Train opened at around $19 million for the weekend, despite COVID-19 restrictions (see "'Demon Slayer' Debuts Big in U.S.").
Netflix recently ordered an animated series based on Pluto, according to Deadline. The series is based on the manga of the same title by Naoki Urasawa and Takashi Nagasaki (see "'Pluto' Manga"), which is inspired by "The Greatest Robot on Earth" story arc from Astro Boy (1964).
Universal has optioned Too Dead to Die, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Too Dead to Die is a graphic novel written by Arrowverse architect Marc Guggenheim with art by Howard Chaykin. Guggenheim is also set to write the screenplay for this project. It was also recently announced that Guggenheim will pen a new five-issue limited comic series, Star Trek: The Motion Picture—Echoes (see "'Star Trek: The Motion Picture—Echoes'").
