RC2, which became the new company name after Racing Champions bought ERTL in 1999, has been continuing its expansion into similar markets by acquiring Playing Mantis and The First Years last month.  This move follows RC2's acquisition of The Learning Curve in 2003 and the set-up of the Joyride brand for entertainment properties and action figures, such as Battlestar Galactica (see 'Battlestar Galactica Action Figures Due This Fall'), in 2001.

Playing Mantis is best known for its Johnny Lightning and Polar Lights brands, while The First Years has the Winnie the Pooh license.

At Comic-Con International:  San Diego, a representative from RC2 told ICv2 that these acquisitions allow the company greater potential to go after more high profile properties.
