Clover Press will publish a new edition of the first six volumes of The Complete Dick Tracy with a new, larger trim size that will match the rest of the series. The art for the new volumes has been reformatted to fit the new page size, and the first 34 Sunday pages have been re-scanned so the images will be sharper. The new volumes will be released two at a time, beginning in September 2023, and will have an MSRP of $59.99.
The Complete Dick Tracy is published by the Library of American Comics, originally in partnership with IDW Publishing and now with Clover Press (see “Library of American Comics and Eurocomics Moving from IDW to Clover Press”). The first six volumes, which cover the years from 1931, when the strip began, to 1936 and were originally published by IDW as 9.5” x 7” hardcovers. The new 11” x 8.5” format will match the other 23 volumes of the series. The dust jacket designs will be updated to match those of the later volumes, but the new edition will include the interviews and introductions by Dick Tracy writer Max Allan Collins that were in the originals.
“We've long wanted to reformat these six hardcovers,” said Dean Mullaney, series editor and Publisher of the Library of American Comics, in a statement accompanying the announcement, “and with Clover's support, fans can now have 29 matching volumes on their bookshelves.”
