Dark Horse Comics will publish the graphic novel Census, co-written by comics writer Marc Bernardin and television producer and director Adam Freeman, with art and colors by Sebastian Piriz. The dark comedy series was originally serialized in five episodes on ComiXology Originals.
The comic is about Liam Malone, an aimless young man working for the Census Bureau in New York City whose job involves knocking on doors and registering whoever answers, which in his case involves a lot of dangerous supernatural creatures such as demons and djinn. To keep the job, he has to make an accurate record and leave unscathed.
Dark Horse will publish the 152-page full color paperback on January 23, 2024, in bookstores and January 24, 2024, in comic shops with an MSRP of $22.99.
Bernardin is a television and comics writer who was nominated for a 2022 Eisner Award for Adora and the Distance; he is also one of the founding creators of DSTLRY (see “Former comiXology Execs to Mix Digital and Print with New Publisher, DSTLRY”). He received the Inkpot Award in 2018. Freeman is a television producer and director whose work includes The Chelsea Handler Show, X-Men Origins: Nightcrawler, and The Authority.
