Cape and Cowl Comics, of Oakland, California, owned by Eitan Manhoff, is the winner of the 2023 Will Eisner Spirit of Retailing Award.  The store has been a finalist for the award multiple times in the past.

The award was announced during the Eisner Awards ceremonies at Comic-Con International in San Diego on July 21, 2023.   The award honors a retailer who has supported the medium in both their local community and the larger world of comics.

Cape and Cowl was chosen from a field of six finalists; the other five were Bat City Comics of Bradenton, Florida; Blackbird Comics and Coffeehouse in Maitland, Florida; Little Shop of Heroes in Dunfermline, Fife, Uinted Kingdom; Travelling Man in Newcastle, United Kingdom; and Zeppelin Comics in Benicia, California.

Last year’s winner was Books with Pictures of Portland, Oregon (see “Will Eisner Spirit of Comics Retailing Award 2022”).
