Legendary X-Men writer Chris Claremont is writing a five-issue limited series, Wolverine: Madripoor Knights, with art by Edgar Salazar, as Marvel Comics marks the 50th anniversary of Wolverine's first appearance.
The new limited series is a sequel to Claremont’s 1990 Uncanny X-Men #268, in which Wolverine meets Captain America for the first time, as they team up to rescue a young Natasha Romanoff in a flashback to World War II, and connects with a present-day story in which Wolverine teams up with Black Widow in Madripoor. In Wolverine: Madripoor Knights, the three are back together again on a mission that will pit them against a number of villains, including the Hand. The first issue will be released on February 7, 2024, with a cover by Philip Tan.
“Hard to believe, Bub, I’ve known Logan for 50 years!” Claremont said in a statement accompanying the announcement. “And Natasha was in the first Marvel story I ever wrote. This trip back to Madripoor reveals hidden truths about two of my favorite characters on the adventure that shaped their lives.”
Wolverine first appeared in The Incredible Hulk #180 in 1974.
Claremont teamed up with Salvador Larroca for X-Treme X-Men in 2022 (see “Chris Claremont and Salvador Larroca Are Back”).
