Wizards of the Coast unveiled details on Modern Horizons 3, a new booster set for Magic: The Gathering's Modern format, which will head to stores on June 14, 2024.
Modern Horizons 3 is packed with all new Modern format-legal goodies meant to give the format a much needed refresh. The set showcases a bevy of new and reprinted cards, including some cards from Commander decks that will now be Modern legal. The highlights of the set are new “flip” planeswalkers and a new take on free spells.
The original round of “flip” planeswalkers were first introduced in Magic Origins (see “Magic Origins“), and have been floating around various formats since. The new “flip” planeswalker cards feature fan favorites Ajani and Tamiyo. Free spells were printed for Modern in Modern Horizons as "pitch instants" and in Modern Horizons 2 as elemental creature spells that had an Evoke cost of discarding a card. The new free spells require players to make sacrifices of permanents in lieu of paying casting costs. There will also be new Eldrazi spells, which includes a brand-new version of Emrakul that is almost tailor-made for Eldrazi Tron decks (see gallery).
As far as reprints go, Priest of Titania makes its debut in Modern, which will no doubt give Elves and green ramp decks a boost. The allied-colored fetch lands will also see a reprint in this set; first time since Khans of Tarkir.
