Dark Horse will publish Dimwood, the final graphic novel by acclaimed creator Richard Corben, who died in 2020 (see “R.I.P. Richard Corben”). Corben wrote and illustrated the Gothic tale of a young, amnesiac woman searching the decaying mansion where she grew up, looking for pieces of her missing past and discovering mysterious disappearances and murders. The previously unpublished graphic novel will be released as part of Dark Horse’s Richard Corben Library (see “Dark Horse to Publish Richard Corben Hardcovers”), with an introduction by writer Joe Lansdale and an epilogue by José Villarrubia, the art director for the project. The dust-jacketed, 8” x 11” hardcover will be released in bookstores on April 22, 2025, and in comic shops on April 23, 2025, with an MSRP of $39.99.
Corben, who died in 2020 at the age of 80, was an influential figure in the world of underground and independent comics. In addition to his own work, which included Slow Death, Grim Wit, Rowlf, Fever Dreams, and Fantagor, he was involved with Warren Magazines and Heavy Metal, created the cover for Meatloaf’s Bat Out of Hell album, ran his own small press, and wrote and drew comics for a number of mainstream and indie publishers. He was named to the Eisner Awards Hall of Fame in 2012 and won the Grand Prix d’Angouleme in 2018.
