Among the stories emanating from the annual MIPCOM trade fair in Cannes, none is more intriguing than news of a joint venture formed by three of the most important anime producers and distributors in America, ADV Films Inc., Funimation Productions, and Geneon Entertainment. A statement issued at a MIPCOM press conference attended by the top brass from all three entities indicates that the three companies are working together on 'a joint venture that will focus on developing high quality entertainment series primarily targeted to children and young adults, where the team can best maximize their respective resources, talent and expertise.'
Together the three companies claim to represent 70% of the home video market for anime in the U.S., an assertion that rings true given the number and popularity of the properties that the three companies produce for the American market.
