Invincible co-creators Robert Kirkman and Ryan Ottley are getting together again for a new ongoing series, Invincible Universe: Battle Beast, which Image will launch in April 2025. The series, the first addition to Invincible in seven years, fills in the story of Battle Beast, who first appeared in Invincible #19. “Longtime fans will know there’s a massive gap in Battle Beast’s appearances in the series between Invincible issue 19 and issue 55,” Kirkman said in a statement accompanying the announcement. “There’s a lot of story to tell.”

The first issue of Invincible Universe: Battle Beast will be released on April 16, 2025, with a main cover by Ryan Ottley and Annalisa Leoni, an open-to-order variant by David Finch, and additional variants by E.J. Su (1:10), Kael Ngu (1:25), Arthur Adams (1:50), Jonboy Meyers (foil; 1:100), as well as a signed and CGC-graded foil cover by Ottley and Leoni (1:1000), a Battle Beast die-cut foil cover by Ottley and Leoni, and an original art sketch cover by Ottley (1:2000).

With this issue, Image is launching a blind bag option that allows the buyer to get any of the listed variants or a rare surprise comic, which may or may not be an Invincible/Battle Beast comic at all. The surprise comics will not be announced until the release date.

Originally created by Kirkman and Cory Walker in 2003 (Ottley came on board with issue #8), Invincible continues to be a best-seller in collected editions in both comic shops and the book channel (see “Top Spring 2024 Author Graphic Novels”). The third season of the Netflix adaptation is set to premiere in 2025, and Netflix has announced a fourth season (see “‘Invincible’ Renewed”).
