IDW Publishing's benefit comic starring Godzilla has raised $40,000 to support comic and book stores impacted by the Los Angeles wildfires, the company announced.  Godzilla vs. Los Angeles, which was released in late April at $7.99 MSRP, is part of IDW's Godzilla vs. America series of one-shots, each set in a different city (see "IDW Bets Big on Godzilla").

IDW is donating the funds to the Binc Foundation, which directly supports comic and book retailers in distress (see "Geek Community Rallies").

"Godzilla has always been a symbol of unstoppable force, and today, we’re channeling that energy into something positive," IDW VP-Marketing said in a statement accompanying the announcement.  "This contribution will directly support independent bookstores and comic shops recovering from the devastating fires.  These stores are the heart of our LA community, and we're honored to stand with them in their time of need."

"It is extraordinary acts like this one from IDW and Toho that change lives," Binc Foundaiton Executive Director Pamela French said.  "Thank you for using your Godzilla-sized power for good!"
