Catalyst Game Labs has announced price increases on its non-book products, after paying $240,000 in unexpected import taxes on product that was in the pipeline when tariffs were announced.
Forcepacks and Box Sets will go up $5; Salvage Box products will go up $1. Sourcebooks will not be affected, for now, based on current rulings on RPG books such as Shadowrun RPG (see "Ruling on RPG Book Tariffs"). In its post announcing the increases, Catalyst noted that it has paid $240,000 in unexpected import taxes in March, and that a 30% tariff requires a 10% increase in MSRP to cover the increased cost going forward.
The company is making contingency plans for a variety of scenarios, ranging from no tariffs to much higher tariffs, in the coming months.
Despite the turmoil, Catalyst CEO Loren Coleman offered some words of encouragement, and a plea for grace in the post. "Things may change, but the gaming industry will endure," he wrote. "BattleTech and Shadowrun will endure. If you can spare a kind word of support for your local game stores or your favorite publishers, then yeah, do that too! Nothing means as much to us as hearing kind, supportive words from our customers."
