Robert Kirkman and David Finch have created a savage new world for their upcoming Skybound/Image Comics series Skinbreaker, the companies announced. "I feel like this book is a high-water mark for both our careers," Kirkman said of the new series in a statement accompanying the announcement. "An action epic that is unrelentingly brutal but also contains a ton of emotion and heart. It’ll shock you and make you cry."
Kirkman also lauded the artwork by Finch, some pages of which are in the Gallery below. "David Finch is one of the greatest comic artists to ever live," he continued. "This is the artist who made Moon Knight outsell Batman. Even a casual glance at any of his work in Skinbreaker will prove to you that this is historic material."
To provide a version that gives the artwork some breathing room, the series will be presented both in a traditional comic format (at $4.99) and in a 10" x 14" treasury format ($14.99).
In the series, an aging Chieftan can barely lift the mighty Skinbreaker, and his heir is reluctant to take it over before their world falls to ruin. As a power struggle begins, the backdrop is a threat lurking in the darkness behind their village.
