Wizards of the Coast announced that seven cards have been banned in Magic: The Gathering's Standard format.

WotC dropped the ban hammer on several cards in the Standard format. The cards banned are as follows:

   ·  Cori-Steel Cutter
   ·  Abuelo's Awakening
   ·  Monstrous Rage
   ·  Heartfire Hero
   ·  Up the Beanstalk
   ·  Hopeless Nightmare
   ·  This Town Ain't Big Enough

The bannings come as a response to the results of the most recent Pro Tour (see " 'Magic: The Gathering' Sees Red") as well as a preparatory measure for the upcoming Standard rotation on August 1, 2025.  This is a rare instance where WotC designers pretty much unloaded every card from the Standard format that was potentially an overpowered card.  The main decks hit by this banning announcement were Izzet Prowess and Mono-Red Aggro, but it seems like WotC designers went the extra mile and got rid of problem cards from Domain Overlords, Azorius Omniscience, and Orzhov Pixie.  It was a true clearing of the decks, and Standard is now a wide open format going into rotation.
