Gungnir, the publisher founded by former Heavy Metal CEO Michael Medney, has signed a global distribution deal with Macmillan. The publisher, which is named after the spear of Odin in Norse mythology, focuses on genre storytelling with a slant toward mythology, science fiction, and fantasy. Their catalog includes graphic novels, prose novels, and art books and was previously distributed by Diamond (see “Editorial Team at Gungnir Entertainment”).

“Macmillan is the ideal partner to help realize our vision and bring bold, original storytelling to the global stage,” Medney said in a statement accompanying the announcement. “Our books are forged in myth and fired in rebellion. It’s sci-fi and fantasy that dares the gods themselves. They’re bold, cinematic, and deeply human – and now, with Macmillan behind us, our authors' voices will echo louder and reach farther than ever before.”

“Two titles embody this mandate perfectly,” Medney continued, Steve Orlando’s Dangerous History, an epic chronicle of the rise, reign, and fall of an empire, told through the eyes of those bold enough to defy fate, and Jim Krueger’s Never A Never Boy, a reimagining of the Peter Pan mythology and dares to ask what happened next.”

Gungnir also announced three new imprints in addition to its flagship label:

Storyteller Media, co-founded by Charles Allen and Istari Medney, will focus on creator-driven stories that will be relevant to the real world, including Don’t Fear Your Roar, by Simba Darian Sanders, and Daughter of Africa, by Kenyan author Gina Din.

Asgard Books, which will adapt video game properties into graphic novels and prose, in partnership with Animation Avenue. The imprint will be spearheaded by Medney, Eric Rotelli, and Animation Avenue founder Omar Spahi.

Rogue Matter, which will be run by Roger Mincheff and Trent Olsen and will announce its creator lineup later this year.
