Image Comics will publish the original graphic novel
The Shadow Planet, a sci-fi tale that mixes Lovecraftian horror with retrofuturism, by writer Giovanni Barbieri and artist Gianluca Pagliarani. The story follows a group of astronauts who arrive on a barren planet on a rescue mission but find a mysterious horror that threatens mankind. The graphic novel was originally published in Italy by Radium via a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo that raised $36,863 from 953 backers. Image will publish the 96-page paperback on September 24 in comic shops and October 2 in the book channel with an MSRP of $12.99.
“It’s some kind of Star Trek with cigarettes, sex and bad language," Barbieri said in a statement accompanying the announcement, and Pagliarani chimed in with: “It’s a bonanza of rusty rockets, clunky space-suits and hideous monsters.”
Image will launch a fourth volume of the Creepshow horror anthology series in September (see “Preview: ‘Creepshow’ Vol. 4 #1”).
