Variety is reporting that Twentieth Century Fox has tapped Sheldon Turner to write a film based on X-Men villain Magneto.  Turner has a relatively short, and recent, resume:  he rewrote Amityville Horror, wrote The Longest Yard, and wrote a sequel to Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

The film will take place in a World War II milieu, in which Magneto is taken to a concentration camp and sees his family killed.  Professor X will also be involved; he was among the troops that liberated the camps and got to know Magneto after the war.

Wolverine, the other X-Men movie spin-off (see 'Troy Scribe to Pen Wolverine Movie') is currently slated for 2007.  No date has been set for Magneto.
