Topps has announced the acquisition of a license to produce trading cards based on the new Peter Jackson King Kong film (see 'Shooting Starts on King Kong Remake').  Topps also produced cards for Jackson's Lord of the Rings trilogy.  Ira Freidman, Topps Vice President Publishing and Licensing, compared the two.  'Our movie cards for the Lord of the Rings trilogy were enormously successful and we're looking forward to a stellar experience with the beloved King Kong franchise,' he said.  According to the announcement, Topps plans 'an ambitions card program' for the property. 

 

The King Kong trailer will begin showing with the release of War of the Worlds late this month.  Topps' King Kong trading cards will hit retail shelves in advance of the release of the film on December 14th.
