Nostalgia buffs take heed, on November 22nd Universal is releasing Season One of the beloved domestic comedy series, Leave it to Beaver, on DVD.  The series, which ran from 1957 to 1963, is one of the few black-and-white shows still receiving airplay on the Nickelodeon network.  While conservative critics and pro-family groups prattle on about Beaver's 'family-bolstering innocence,' the real reason for the series' success is its gallery of superb, morally-challenged, supporting characters including the slimy Eddie Haskell (Ken Osmond), who defined 'smarmy' well before the term was in wide circulation; the oafish Lumpy Rutherford (Frank Bank) with his insufferable father, Fred (Richard Deacon); and Beaver's domineering female classmate Judy (Jeri Weil), the perfect live action equivalent of Charles Schultz's Lucy.

Universal has managed to get all 39 half-hour episodes onto three double-sided disks.  Leave It to Beaver Season One will be available in a conventional box set ($49.98) and in a Limited Edition Collectible Lunchbox Edition (MSRP $69.98), which also includes a 'Cleaver Family Photo Album.'
