Steve Niles' 30 Days of Night comic book was sold to Hollywood before the first issue was even published, but Tinseltown has a way of taking its time in developing even the most promising property, so it's no surprise that this high concept vampire thriller set in Barrow Alaska, a town where in the winter the sun sets for more than 30 days, has been in 'production hell' for more than 3 years (see '30 Days of Night Optioned').  However Columbia Pictures and Ghost House Pictures have announced that David Slade, who directed Hard Candy, a hit at this year's Sundance Film Festival, has been signed to direct the big screen adaptation of 30 Days of Night.

While the hiring of a director does indicate that Columbia is serious about the project, no screenwriter is currently attached to the project, which means that there are still plenty of hurdles to jump before 30 Days of Night makes it to the local Cineplex.  Stay tuned for updates.
